Dec 5, 2018Jolie (nee Lamping), 76, of Oak Park, died on Nov. 20, 2018 at the Scottish Home in North Riverside. Born on Sept. 13, 1942, she was a 1960 graduate of St. Scholastica High School in Chicago and a 1964 graduate of Rosary College in River Forest. After a stint with Catholic Relief Services in South America, she worked for three decades as a pre-school and kindergarten teacher at Pilgrim Nursery School in Oak Park and on Chicago's West Side. She and her husband lived on the 200 block of South Elmwood for more than 50 years and was a cherished friend and neighbor to three generations of Oak Parkers, who recall her commitment to social justice and educational equity, but also the block parties that made Christmas the second-best day of the year, the well-stocked water balloon fights, knowing every kid's nickname, and the joy that living on a corner allowed for endless conversations with passers-by. Judith Jolie was the wife of Thomas; the mother of Sarah, Charles (Liz Keating) and Angela (Daniel Morillo) Jolie; grandmother of Sarah, Kate and Grace Jolie and Sofia and Joaquin Morillo; special-grandma of Elanor and Otto Huber; sister of Barbara and Mary Jo Lamping, Betsy (the late James) Sklena, and her late twin brother James Lamping; and the cousin, aunt and great-aunt of many. In lieu of flowers, she wrote in advance, "Please grow some. Find joy in giving them the love they need to thrive and bloom, then take joy in the smiles they create." Any child lucky enough to grow up there in the '70s, '80s or '90s knew that the 200 block of South Elmwood was a garden where Mrs. J helped them bloom.
